I together with some artist colleges make up the artistic collective “Anonyma Rya artister” which are exploring the rya technique.
Experimentation of using abstraction and craft to talk about political events as the work is referencing to the Swedish/Norwegian textile artist Hannah Ryggen. In her work Ryggen responded to political events in handwoven tapestries, in some of her tapestries she abstracted the motives and used rya technique.
After the terrorist attack in Brussels in 2016 a Swedish journalist posed the question of the political force in pottering about (“pyssel” in Swedish). Pottering about is often considered apolitical as it is used as a recreational activity, even though the outcome may be a functional object. The journalist proposed a revision of that idea since the terrorists had gone pottering about nails to create even more violent bombs, hurting as many people as possible.
